Church Search Engine Optimization, an article by SEO consultant Edward Tsai, explains how to make church websites more visible to search engines.
Web designer Dean Peters examines and critiques church websites at his blog, Heal Your Church Website, giving specific examples of what should be done to improve websites. Peters also comments on methods used to reach out to people via the web.
Picking the right keywords to use on your web page is key to ranking highly in search engine results. Many of us, however, are happy to use our church name as the sole keyword. But how will somebody looking for your church even know what your church name is? SEO consultant Theresa Leonard-Wilkinson explains the importance of the right keyword in this article.
Web developer Mike Atkinson wrote the series "Improving Your Church Website. In Search and Ye Shall (not) Find, Atkinson explains some of the most important aspects of web page optimization. In Part Deux, he recounts the "Nigritude Ultramarine" Googlebombing contest in 2004. That information is a bit outdated as Google and other search engines now work to detect Googlebombing, comment spam, and other black-hat tricks. His comments about requesting links from related websites are right on target, however.
This case study of a small church in Illinois examines the impact of creating community event web pages as a method of drawing visitors. The same author also examines the benefit of creating multiple web pages, one for each city you want to reach.
